Sister Ann Tumulty, OP of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at home in Linden, New Jersey. She was 75 years old.

The daughter of the late Hugh F. and Catherine Gallagher Tumulty, she was born in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Sister Ann entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor on September 8, 1950, made her First Profession May 1, 1952, and Final Profession May 1, 1958. Sister Ann earned her RN from Misericordia School of Nursing, her BS in Nursing from Pace University, and her MA in Theological Studies from Maryknoll School of Theology.

Ministry history:

Sister Ann’s ministry has been primarily nursing with Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Ossining, New York (1950-53, 1972-84); Boston, Massachusetts (1958-59); Dayton, Ohio (1959-62); and Denver, Colorado (1966-67). She also did nursing at Misericordia Hospital (1953-58), Calvary Hospital (1967-72, 1984-85), and Phelps Memorial Hospital (1985-87). From 1987-2000, Sister Ann worked for New Community Corporation in Newark, New Jersey, first as director of home health (1987-1995), then as a counselor in workforce development (1995-2000). In 2000, she began doing parish outreach at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Newark, New Jersey. She retired from active ministry in 2006 and did volunteer ministry while residing at Ann J. Ferguson Apts in Linden, New Jersey.
