Sister Marie Paule entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena in Fall River in December 1930, made first profession of vows in July 1932 and final profession in July 1936. She received her BA in Humanities and Modern Language from Providence College. Sister Marie Paule began her teaching ministry as an elementary school teacher at St. Anne School in Fall River from 1929-37. She then moved to Plattsburgh, where she taught at St. Peter’s Elementary School and was in charge of the boarders. After two years she returned to Massachusetts and, during the years between 1937-46, served as principal, teacher and librarian at St. Francis Xavier School in Acushnet, and assistant principal at St. Anne School in Fall River. Beginning in 1946, she taught at St. Anne School for 18 years and was principal for five years. In 1969, Sister Marie Paule transferred to Dominican Academy in Fall River, where she taught French and did private tutoring, then took on the role of cafeteria supervisor until 1972. At that time she was began volunteer services at the Fall River convent until she moved to Landmark at Fall River in 2002. Sister Marie Paule was well respected both as teacher and principal. A good teacher, she will be remembered as firm but fair, one who engendered a sense of responsibility in her students. As principal she “ran a tight ship,” was well organized and task-oriented. Although small in stature, Marie Paule had no fear of tall eighth-graders. She was faithful to the obligations of religious life, and was known for her quick pace as she moved about her daily business. During her leisure time, Marie Paule loved to play the violin, was adept at needlework, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. From the Obituary |
